OUR CURRENT PROJECTS:
The New Gary Community Development Corporation was established in 1997 to promote the revitalization of the City of Gary and Northwest Indiana Region. Our mission is to promote the success of our local citizens by meeting crisis needs, training for employment, purpose related careers, mentoring and establishing financial independence. We seek to empower people to empower themselves, thus revitalizing our community and region. Programs offered through New Gary CDC include Career Counseling, Job Skills and Training, Tutoring, Job Readiness Courses (Resume Writing, Interviewing), Transitional Housing, Certified Nurse’s Assistant and Qualified Medical Assistant Training, Pre-Marital Counseling, Marriage Counseling, Leadership Mentoring and Family Counseling, Senior Care, feeding the hungry, a private Christian school for inner-city children and a Health & Fitness Programs for the community all free of charge.
TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
We provide transitional housing for those in financial crisis, budgeting and debt elimination classes, private Christian education for daycare to 8th grade to the most high-risk student population, marital and pre-marital counseling for family stabilization, employment, entrepreneur and leadership training.
RESTORATION
We identify families and individuals that are in financial crisis and train them for homeownership. Placing them in remodeled homes rent-free, under the direction of an assigned budget counselor. The purpose is to eliminate debt, restore credit scores, and purchase affordable and sustainable housing.
We restore abandoned homes and use them for the transitional housing program. The 1st home was renovated in 2001; this program has grown to nine renovated, single-family homes in the City of Gary. These homes provide free housing for families fully furnished for up to two years.
During this period, the families receive counseling for debt elimination, financial management, and home maintenance counseling. Each home is fully furnished with brand new furniture and appliances throughout including washer and dryer. We have had many successes and families have gone on to purchase their own homes.
Ambassador Senior Services
Ambassador Senior Services is a daytime alternative to leaving seniors home alone. Ambassador Adult Day Care is State certified. We provide excellent care, meals, snacks, and activities.
Our program offers many stimulating activities that add variety and interest to every new day while providing nursing supervision and individual attention to seniors in a safe and comfortable environment.
The combination of an enjoyable atmosphere and supervision promotes the health and independence of the disabled or older adult.
Ambassador Senior Home
We believe that older persons deserve to live in a “home” as long as this is practical. Helping seniors live their best life. Our service is designed to care for people who are no longer able to stay in their own homes. We Provide a safe, comforting home environment with assistance as needed for activities of daily living. We offer residents live in accommodations as an alternative to institutions or nursing homes.
Residents can live in this home
environment with a 24-hour certified nursing assistant, fulltime cook, and a
registered nurse on call. We have been in operation for 8 years. We care for
the whole person, in providing the highest quality of senior care.
Food 4U Program
Our Food 4U Program provides food and groceries to those in need to prevent hunger monthly. Over 4000 families fed since inception. Struggling families tend to run out of food at the end of the month. The Food 4U program provides emergency food and clothing as well as groceries to help families make it to the end of the month. The Food 4U program provides non-perishable food items and a meat voucher each month.
This program also distributes special holiday meals, back to school supplies, toys at Christmas, new and slightly used clothing for job interviews and coats for the winter.
We run an overstock
store with brand new items from local stores such as Walmart, Bed Bath &
Beyond as a giveaway monthly to help those in need.
TRAINING
Male Mentoring
Male Mentoring is a 6-Weeks mentoring program designed to provide young men ages 12-18 with leadership values. The program has resulted in improvements in academic performance and has reduced high-risk behavior. Through guidance, patience, and caring, we have helped young men, especially those from single family homes, build their self-esteem promoting success and a productive life year after year.
LEADERSHIP
New Gary CDC trains over 100 leaders to serve in our community. Many go on to develop and establish businesses that enhance our region.
FAMILY SUPPORT
We seek to stabilize the family by stabilizing marriages. Premarital counseling is an investment in building a loving, lasting, healthy marriage. Premarital counseling is an opportunity for couples to discuss their values and learning principles that will support a lasting marriage relationship.
Marriage Planters
This
program promotes marriages by providing first-time weddings for young couples
who do not have the finances for a wedding.

PURPOSE FULFILLMENT
Ambassador Christian Academy
Ambassador Christian Academy, established in 1997, is a Christian School which focuses on training children to live according to bible standards. Our school equips children to excel academically and to succeed when entering high school or college. We develop the total person: spirit, soul, and body. Ambassador Academy educates over 200 students each year to prepare them to be successful adults, leaders and entrepreneurs.
Ambassador Certified Nurse’s Program
Ambassador Certified Nurse’s Assistant Training Program was established to introduce employment opportunities to our surrounding urban population. Our program trains students to earn their Indiana State Certification to enter the Healthcare workforce. The goal is to provide training for those challenged by the absence of a trade or college education. Our program has trained over 400 students with a pass rate of 84%.
Qualified Medical Assistant (QMA) Training
Our 1st Qualified Medical Assistant (QMA) class started in 2018. Over 80% of the students went from being a Certified Nursing Assistant to a Licensed QMA which is a step up leading to higher pay and eventually training to enter the nursing field.
OUR FUTURE PROJECTS
Opening in 2021. Establishing a commercial kitchen and culinary school to train for employment. Training cooks for local restaurants and start-up food businesses.
Planning to take youth off the streets and train them in the construction trades, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC drywall, and painting. This program will support the region’s construction industry.
